Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK)

The Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Program is a state program designed to improve students’ kindergarten readiness.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

  • Follows Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards for Four-Year-Olds (2011)
  • Focuses on early language and literacy skills
  • Prepares students for kindergarten
  • Summer and school-year programs
  • Extended Day Opportunities
  • Free of charge


ELIGIBILITY

  • Children must be 4 years-old by September 1st


TARGET

  • All 4 year-old children

 

CURRENT LOCATIONS

  • Head Start/VPK Extended Day Program offered at 12 elementary schools
  • VPK/Early Childhood High School Program offered at three High Schools


CURRICULUM

 

  • Opening the World of Learning (OWL)
